There is one flight per day from George Bush International Airport to San Pedro Sula and our team was on it. Departure was delayed about an hour. We arrived safely and wound our way through immigration. Customs took significantly longer.
The first person I met in this country was a friendly gentleman who made room for me in the seating area. I employed my third-grade Spanish to introduce myself and exchange pleasantries. When I mentioned our group was here to host a series of vision clinics his face lit up. He smiled and said “Ah, un brigado médico!” It turns out he is an Episcopal priest and his congregation is in an area that shares a border with Guatemala. He was very familiar with our type of mission.

We left the airport 4 hours later without our cargo, which still had not cleared customs. We boarded our bus while it was still light to make the journey westward to Copán. It was 90 degree weather, humidity and no wind — just like Houston in July. City traffic was soon replaced by mountain roads with narrow lanes and the most fearless drivers I have ever seen! We arrived at our hotel several hours late, after dark. The gracious staff at the Hotel Alicia delayed dinner for us as best they could. After a quick meal we checked into our rooms about 11:00pm, eager to get some sleep before our 6:15 call the next day. The day ended with good news — the glasses eventually cleared customs . They will arrive some time tomorrow.
Question: what would God have us learn from the events of today?
