May 20, 2023
Today’s clinic was held in Florida

(pronounced Floh-REE-da), a more mountainous area of Copán. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Santa Rosa. The space available in this church was smaller, so the Pastors welcome area, Eye chart testing and triage took place outside. The weather was very hot, but the people waited patiently, sometimes for over an hour before meeting with the Pastor. A full visit could take up to 3 hours if both distance glasses and readers are needed.
We closed a little early today to move to a new hotel, but still helped lots of people.

500 Visitors to today’s clinic
54 people requested a follow up visit with a Pastor

This first set of pictures shows the typical route a visitor will follow as they meet with pastors, have their eyes tested, and get fitted for glasses. Yesterday we introduced the auto refractor, which occurs after Triage and before a Doctor visit.

Lots of children came to clinic today, some accompanying their mothers and some who needed eye care. It was impossible not to smile at their energy and infectious laughter. They also loved the colorful Cross necklaces. One little boy was so proud of his that he ran around the entire room showing it off to we! All children who visit the clinic will see the Doctor first. He will determine whether glasses are the right solution for their age and vision needs.

Tonight we will hold a church service in the Hotel, led by Pastor Jim Menke. Tomorrow is our rest day. The whole team is looking forward to visiting the ancient Mayan ruins just west of here.
