Different Perspectives

Total Patient Follow-ups (want a Pastor to follow up with them): 34

One of the cool things about mission trips is those moments when the unexpected happens. For example, the man who thought he came to clinic to get eyeglasses has an encounter with Jesus that changes his life. Or when the young man who volunteered to translate discovers he has the spiritual gift of evangelism. Shy people grow confident and others find purpose and meaning when they place their trust in God. Being in a foreign country and not speaking the language makes it clear just how little control we have. And that’s okay, because God has a plan for every single person involved.

Today, a translator at the triage table arrived late, so he was replaced with another student translator. Did this happen by chance or by design? As part of her orientation, a mock triage session was set up so she could observe and then practice. During the role play, she realized that she did not know Jesus personally. She wanted to know more, and shortly afterward she said the sinner’s prayer and received a copy of the book of John in Spanish. It was an emotional time, and as she collected herself she was able to observe patients as they came through the triage station. She listened to the discussions as other patients were asked if they knew Jesus as their savior. She eventually translated this same discussion several times during the day. At the close of the clinic day, she knew with absolute certainty that this was part of God’s plan for her — to get to know Jesus personally today.

Hitting Their Stride

Lots of people were waiting at opening time and the team was ready. Take a look at these pictures and imagine yourself on location. Could this be you on a future mission trip? Tomorrow the team will be on the bus at 6:30am to travel to the city of La Masica. They will host a one-day clinic, and Sunday will be a worship and rest day. Pray for travel safety, stamina, encouragement, and a strong sense of God’s purpose and direction.
